about taking your mobile phone with you? The first thing I would say is don’t even bother and the second is that if you are then make sure you have cell phone insurance.

Reasons

One of the main reasons that you should not be taking a phone with you is because you are going away to relax not to work or stare at a phonescreen, think of the people around you. Trust me on this one, if you have your mobile phone with you then you are twice as likely to want to contact the people back at home because you miss them. The thing is it is still going to be there when you get back so if you are really that desperate to use a phone just use a pay phone. This is something that is a lot cheaper than using your mobile to make the call.

Another reason why you really should not be using the phone is the roaming charges you can get from the net. The problem with many phones such as the iPhone is that if someone clicks the net by mistake they are going to be getting a very big bill indeed.

Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. Another thing is that each time that you text it is likely to cost you a lot of money too.

The main lesson to be learnt from this is just to leave the phone at home as it is just not worth all of the hassle. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into cheap car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are certainly covered.

Bolivia is not your run of the mill travel destination. To visit this country is to visit the true heart of South America. Where else can you see indigenous ladies wearing their traditional colorful layered dressed and bowler hats, a tropical paradise and snow-capped Andean mountains all in the course of one day?

La Paz will take your breath away in more ways than one. The world’s highest capital, it lies at 4000m above sea level. It’s surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks during most parts of the year. Taking a taxi to the city center, you will feel like you are driving into the gaping mouth of an extinct volcano.

Probably the best known tourist attraction of La Paz is the witches market. If you are looking for a Llama fetus to bury underneath your new house to bring good luck, you will find it here. You could certainly also find something to bring a bit of bad luck to your horrible boss back home. The huge open air market of 16 de Julio offers virtually anything you can think of; if you are looking for a wireless reading device you will find it here, and if you want to buy a 5 piece drum set you will most probably find that as well.

A visit to the La Paz coca museum is an absolute must. Many of your preconceptions about coca production will be quickly destroyed. You will for example learn that coca has been cultivated for centuries by the local Indians to use against altitude sickness, to make delicious herbal tea and for medicinal purposes.

Not many people probably know that a well-known soft drink using the coca name used to contain cocaine for decades – this practice only ended in 1929. Maybe that explains why your grandfather was addicted to a certain soft drink…

If at all possible, try to attend the biggest festival in La Paz, the Festividad del Senor del Gran Poder, held in winter every year. During 2009 more than 30 000 dancers took part in this amazing display of costumes, music and dance. It’s a whole day event, lasting from about nine in the morning until late in the night.

Should you be an avid skier and you have access to Alpine skiing equipment, you should consider taking a day trip to the nearby ski resort of Chacaltaya. At 5400m this is the world’s highest ski resort. We are now talking about the same height as that of Everest base camp, so unless you are totally acclimatised to the attitude, you will probably find that you can hardly breathe, never mind ski.

When travelling abroad, many Americans assume that the insurance plan that they have at home includes coverage when travelling abroad. Unfortunately, many find out too late that travel insurance is the only way to fully protect yourself when overseas.

Some insurance plans that travelers have in the US may include coverage for costs that are considered “customary and reasonable”, however, this is often just a small part of the bill should you become injured or ill. As the costs of extensive medical treatment and medical evacuation back to the US can often top $10,000 (USD), travel health insurance is an effective way to receive coverage overseas.

Senior citizens are strongly advised to purchase travel medical insurance for all trips overseas, as Medicare does not provide coverage outside of the US. The high medical bills that can accrue as a result of an medical emergency overseas would have to be paid out of pocket if the traveler isn’t insured.

Planning for a trip overseas should be a fun and exciting time, but it’s also important to take your health and safety seriously. By purchasing a travel insurance plan along with your trip travel package, you can feel confident that you and your family will be covered for emergencies that occur overseas.

Write down any important medical information, including any current medical conditions and allergies prior to taking your trip. Having this information easily accessible can be extremely helpful should you need medical care while overseas. It is also important to being your travel insurance ID card and the contact information for your doctor in the US.

Travel medical insurance is a must-have for anyone looking for short term health insurance that protects while overseas. Research the various options online to determine which one best suits your needs. Compare each plan by coverage and cost to make sure you are looking at the overall value of the plan.

Many travel health insurance plans can be purchased online, allowing for instant access to coverage and ID cards. In many cases, this type of insurance also protects the purchaser against trip cancellation fees should the trip have to be postponed or cancelled due to an emergency.

Travelling abroad can be fun and safe when everyone is protected with travel medical insurance. The full experience of the trip and the many benefits you receive from exploring new cultures can best be enjoyed when you don’t have to worry about out of pocket costs and bills. Start your trip out right with the purchase of travel insurance.

Regardless of your tastes or budget, finding the perfect vacation rental has never been easier, and Maui is inarguably one of the top holiday destinations in Hawaii! With a diverse selection of oceanfront homes, luxury villas, fully equipped beachfront condominiums and even jungle cottages you are sure to find something for everyone.

A Smorgasboard of Activities

Maui offers an abundance of things to do for any age and preference, i.e. kite surfing, romantic sunset cruises, volcano sightseeing, snorkeling.

Hiking and biking through the lush rainforest around Maui villas or up to the top of the 10,023 foot summit of Haleakala volcano are also and fun for adventure seekers. However, if relaxing is more the idea, a game of golf on championship greens or a relaxing treatment at one of the culturally inspired Hawaiian spas might be a nice alternative.

What type of experience do you desire?

Your first decision should be what type of experience you desire, as each area of the Island can differ greatly from the other.

For the water sports enthusiast,
Spreckelsville is a small residential area on Maui, located between Kahului and Paia and stretching for almost 1.5 miles. This pristine area offers some of the only vacation rentals on Maui that surfers and windsurfers can easily launch from. You will find wonderful beaches and a high demand for the oceanfront houses with both launch sites and secure storage for your gear.

Many of you may wish to enjoy a real Hawaiian get-away further up the North Shore, in the villages of Haiku, Makawao, Huelo and even upcountry Maui close to Haleakala. These areas offer an array of lovely rooms in shared homes, retreat houses with waterfall pools and hiking trails and even cozy cottages for couples. You can choose from retreat houses with waterfall pools and hiking trails close-by, cozy cottages and comfortable rooms in shared homes. These locations are close to small village shopping centers that include everything from organic, locally grown produce to Hawaiian snack food.

Looking for the lap of luxury?
Wailea and Makena are the most upscale areas of Maui, and this tends to be reflected in most of the homes, condominiums and cottages that are available for vacationers and residents alike. These oceanfront rentals are close to calm, sandy beaches, offer stunning sunsets and some of the finest shopping and cuisine to be found anywhere on the island.

Lastly, the resort areas of West Maui offer you a wide range of luxury homes, condominiums and upscale cottages, with great views and most with access to the some of the islands most popular beaches.

The condos in the West area of Maui tend to be a little older, but offer some of the premier locations. Many are walking distance to the shops of and beaches of Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach. Each property offer its own unique charm, style and setting.

Maui offers something for everyone whether you search for your type of accommodation or your type of activities. Your Maui vacations depend only on your budget and preferences. Select a humble cottage or anything else up to a luxury hotel, select an exciting bike ride down the Haleakala volcano or play a quiet game of golf.

I still remember what it was like the first time and that was forty one years ago. I’d listen to friends talking about it. ‘Learn to ski, matey – you’ll love it!’ It was like having that first cigarette but with more potential. If my chums all did it, then skiing was something I had to have a go at.

The first country I ever skied was Norway – freezing and mostly dark but very friendly and a place where the beer and aquavit flowed relentlessly. Headaches and bruises and continually falling over was what I remember. Despite the setbacks we had a great time; it was something to do with being at altitude with people who were determined to have a really good time.

Let me help you down your first slope if you have never tried it till now. If you have been on a winter holiday before and understand the rudiments of how to ski but want to improve, you can join us too in the Austrian Alps and then go to my free ebook about ‘Secrets of Better Skiing’, which will turn a novice skier into an expert.

I’ve chosen Austria, because generaly, they do it best of all. The locals are cheerful, the chalets, hotels and bars are warm and welcoming, and the Austrians know how to have a good time. The entertainment and the partying is good value and you’re happy to pay.

So we have had a good breakfast and ventured on to the beginners’ slope. The kitting out in the shop was an adventure on its own and we are carrying and wearing some interesting stuff but at last we’re here. And isn’t it fine and dandy despite the ski equipment we’ve had to carry and wear from the shop? Blazing sunshine, crisp white snow and a disappearing mist in the valley all promise a wonderful day. It’s cold at the moment but it will quickly warm up and we may even be down to shirtsleeves by lunchtime.

For how to dress functionally when skiing read this really useful article about Ski Clothing.

The slope is really a field but now has a metre of packed snow on it. It’s flat where we are and then rises a bit when we look downhill, but looking upwards to the woods a hundred yards away we notice that it rises a bit; the top of the slope is only ten feet higher than us. Let’s go a bit higher and put our skis on. I’m skipping how to put your skis and boots on here, as I know how eager you are to get going as quickly as possible

Walk up the hill for a short way with your skis on and boots done up – you can use your poles to help you – when you’ve gone far enough carefully turn round and face downhill. Allow the skis slide on their own. As you get to the little slope at the bottom they’ll come to a halt. When you come to rest at the bottom, take the skis off and carry them up a bit higher than before. Just let them run on their own and go a litttle higher up the hill each time. As you start going higher up the hill and therefore faster you can try doing some step turns which involve stepping round in the same direction which will make you come to a halt.

During all this I hope you will be falling over a lot – this is crucial in your development. Learn how to fall in your own way – it’s best to drop, before you need to,on the side up hill of your skis – and you will soon overcome your fear. Really, I know, I’m a ski teacher.

That’s it for now. To progress and for more information on ski equipment as well as ski wear, or maybe even to look for a ski holiday go to Ski Jungle – Ski Clothes, and good skiing!

travel entry

In recent years, as well as recent months, airline trip rules have changed. If you are planning on flying, you will find that most of these changes have occurred right at airports, namely airport security checkpoints. If you are about to head off to catch a flight, whether you leave tomorrow or in two weeks, it is advised that you famialrize yourself with these new air travel rules, namely the ones that are enforced at airport security checkpoints.

When it comes to airport security checkpoints, there are many passengers who only think of one checkpoint, but the reality is that there are actually three. When registering for seating on the plane will be your first checkpoint. This is the time when you will be presented with your boarding passes and when you must hand over the luggage that you would like checked. In addition to handing over your plane tickets or requesting your boarding passes, you will need to show the proper forms of identification. These items most commonly include a driver’s license or a government issued identification card.

Once you have received all of your boarding passes, for all of your flights, you will need to hand over your luggage that you will be leaving below in the plane. These bags are commonly referred to as checked baggage or checked luggage. As with your carryon luggage, your checked baggage will need to be checked for prohibited items. In the past, only a small number of bags were hand checked, but now almost all are. Many of these checks are quick look-overs, but you may be subject to a random, extensive search. This search often includes the checking of all baggage compartments, as well as the wiping of a cloth, which is looking for powdery substances.

You’ll require to pass through airline security as your next stage. This point is where you will be required to have your carryon luggage scanned by an x-ray machine. You will also need to walk through a metal detector. In the past, only random travelers were asked to remove their shoes for checking. At this time, all travelers are required to remove their shoes, expect those with underlying medical conditions. Your shoes will be x-rayed, along with the rest of your carryon luggage.

By familiarizing yourself with the items that are banned aboard an airplane, including items that are only prohibited from being stored in your carryon luggage, an unnecessary incident could be prevented. In the event that you are found carrying a prohibited item, certain steps will be taken. Depending on the item in question, you may be required to return the item to you car, discard of it, mail it to your home, or turn it over to airport security. To shorten delays, make certain you do not bring along with you any prohibited items that could cause you to miss your flight.

Once you have been cleared at the main security checkpoint, you will need to go through one more security checkpoint. This is the final step before being able to board your airplane. When entering the airport terminal, after your airline as granted permission for passengers to board, you will need to present airline officials with the appropriate boarding pass. As this time you may need to show your identification again; however, it isn’t always necessary. Most travelers are easily able to board their airplane, but you may be pulled aside in the event that you are acting suspicious or drawing unwanted attention to yourself. That is why it is best that you stay calm during all airport checkpoints, including the final boarding stage.

Perhaps, the best way to ensure that your next flight is as pleasant as it can be is to follow all travel requirements rules. Knowing these rules ahead of time, including the screening process, you should ensure that you are able to board your plane and make it to your intended destination without incident.

Big Sky Ski Resort

With all that Big Sky, Montana has to offer skiers, it is amazing that so few know about its existence! Known for its wide open slopes and short lift lines, Big Sky Ski Resort has one of the largest lift served vertical drops in the United States. Over 5300 acres of ski slopes and trails await skiers, with over 33 feet of snowfall each season.

Ski Big Sky and discover acres of terrain on three immense mountains that provide you with enough variety and expanse that standing in lift lines is an anomaly to Big Sky visitors. Big Sky Lodging options vary from slopeside hotels and Condos to private homes. Two mountains of blissful terrain please everyone from the power wedge to the fast and fearless. The ingredients are simple: massive acreage, the most total vertical feet in the United States, and a lift network including high speed quads that makes most skiers vanish onto nearly-private runs.

This secluded, mid-mountain location provides a one of a kind ski-in/ski-out experience. Enjoy panoramic views from the private hot tub on your deck. Sure, there are other mountain resorts with lots of summer activities, but only Big Sky has Lone Mountain. Millions of acres of national forest and wilderness. During the summer, Grizzly Outfitters specializes in mountain biking, camping, hiking, and climbing. They are Big Sky’s largest full-service ski and bike shop, featuring overnight tuning services.

Big Sky Resort continues to make its mark on the mountain vacation industry, along with creating a remarkable memorable experience for winter guests. And one reader sums up the on-mountain food options as “granola in your pocket and water in your Camelbak.”.Many deem that an acceptable trade-off for enjoying some of the biggest skiing in North America. Ski-town airports charge high rental rates in wintertime, and your “car” may well be an SUV—great for mountain driving, but a huge gas-guzzler. Instead, rely on airport shuttles.

Check out the new terrain at the Moonlight Basin ski area – also ski in / ski out directly from the cabin! Lone Mountain boasts a shocking 4,350 vertical feet, and is made up of a lot of expert ski terrain. Andesite Mountain is most notably an intermediate mountain, though it also boasts some expert tree runs and a giant half pipe.

There are many places to lodge in Big Sky Resorts Mountain Village, which rests at the foot of the impressive Lone Peak mountain. Enjoy Sleigh Ride dinners, ice skating, parties, snowmobile tours, and a variety of community events. At Big Sky, there are no strangers. Big Sky, Montana is one of the highest rated ski resorts in the United States, and rivals Winter Park ski vacations for the perfect getaway. There is something here for everyone.

Arriving in Paris you will probably want to check into your comfortable delux Paris hotel first, but the city will draw you out into the streets in short order. Choosing a central hotel may be more expensive than somewhere at the end of the metro line, but being right in the midst of the famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre has a lot going for it. Whatever your budget think carefully about your Paris apartment location, it will make a big different to your holiday – especially if you are on a limited budget

Another must-see sight is the Champs Elysees or the Elysian Fields. It is considered as the most beautiful avenue in the whole world which started as a plain field but later on converted into a pathway lined with trees. It runs from the Concorde Square up to the equally famous Arc de Triomphe and became one of the attractions and features of Paris. It is one of the most famous streets in the whole world.

In the middle of some of Paris’s craziest traffic, the Arc de Triomphe is still a must-do attraction. It is a large arc which serves as a roundabout a meeting point of more than twelve avenues in the whole city of Paris. It stands as a commemoration of the great victories of Napoleon. The top of the arc serves as a viewing platform that tourists can climb through 284 steps. Probably the most important attraction of Paris.

The selection of building, museums art galleries and fantastic shopping make Paris one of the best tourist cities in the world. Some of the places that tourists like you should visit are the Tuileries Garden, the Sainte Chapelle, and the Catacombes des Paris. Still, there are other landmarks that you can visit when you plan a vacation in Paris. These places will make your stay in Paris memorable and will make your sleep in your Paris hotel as peaceful and as dreamy as ever.

All the details of the honeymoon require one’s attention just as the wedding party does. Here are some tips to consider for a perfect honeymoon travel regardless of whether you travel by plane, boat, train or car.

Make reservations in advance and book tickets at hotels in case you make halts on the way to the destination. If you know how to make good planning you’ll benefit from great rebates; airlines are known to first sell all classes of seats at the best prices, but as the departure date approaches, only the business class seats remain available.

Moreover, travel agencies have special packages for honeymooners, with all sorts of options included. Hence, tell the agency that you are looking for honeymoon travel opportunities, and you may strike a better deal. Sometimes people go for the all inclusive variant and leave it to the agency to deal with everything from then transportation details to the hotel reservations, but other couples prefer to get involved actively in the planning.

Smart packing is another honeymoon travel tip some people fail to follow particularly when going to areas with warmer climates. This is not about taking sweaters and jackets when going to Hawaii, but rather about choosing to have some extra apparel items available for more special events, as you may want to wear something other than slippers and t-shirts. Don’t forget to take some water, a few snacks and the essentials necessary for the trip. By essentials I mean the passports, the credit cards, a list of useful phone numbers and so on.

Enhance the atmosphere of the honeymoon travel by means of some carefully selected personal items . Thus, you can pack a CD with very meaningful love songs, eventually music from the wedding reception or some special rhythms to enjoy in a romantic setting. Then, keep in mind that hotels provide all sorts of services on request, therefore, if you want to pamper yourself, the honeymoon could be the right time to start.

Feel the authenticity of every location to really make the best of your honeymoon travel: try new drinks, food and music, local customs, talk to the people, visit relevant local sites and points of attractions. Keep bad moods away even if trifles may threaten to ruin the atmosphere.

Death Valley is a national park of a different flavor. It’s a region of extremes… extreme temperatures… extreme geology… extreme history… extreme scenery. Death Valley provides a stark contrast to many of Americas other national parks and caters to those who are looking for an escape from the ordinary, and a refuge from cold in winter.

Death Valley is most popular in autumn and winter months when the rest of the country is shivering under the icy chill of winter and a blanket of snow. Death Valley beckons ‘snow-birds’ from across the upper latitudes of north America with her dry desert climate and her persuasively mild temperatures.

Death Valley covers more than 3 million acres, roughly 1 1/2 times the size of Delaware. It is also an area of extreme, albeit unusual scenic beauty and adventure.

Death Valley is a popular destination throughout the year, but even more so in the winter months, and activities such as hiking, biking and horseback riding are all popular sports within the area.

Death Valley and the Mojave Dessert is home to more than 56 species of mammal, 36 species of reptile, several types of amphibians and fish species, and more than 400 classifications of birds have been spotted within the park.

Mammals found inside the park include include bighorn sheep, foxes, coyotes, squirrels, rodents, jackrabbits, bats and more. There are also many interesting types of reptiles in the park such as the Chuckwalla, the second largest lizard found inside the United States. This interesting creature likes to hang out near rocky areas and will squeeze into rocky crevices and inflate itself when it feels threatened. Another interesting reptile is the desert horned lizard a moderately sized lizard with pointed scales that protrude from it’s head and body in the shape of horns. Only the ‘horns’ on it’s head are rigid, the rest of the horn-like scales are soft and feel more like normal reptile skin. One interesting thing about the horned lizard is it’s ability to shoot a stream of blood from the corner of it’s eyes when it is threatened by a predator. This creates a distraction and allows the lizard an opportunity to escape.

There are more than a half-dozen ghost towns in Death Valley. Most of these ghost towns were mining towns that sprung up in the late 1800’s to mid 1900 when gold, silver and copper ore was found in the area. The largest of the ghost towns in Death Valley is the town of Rhyolite. During it’s heyday, this town had a population of 5,000 to 10,000 residents. The town consisted of two churches, fifty saloons, eighteen stores, nineteen lodging houses, a stock exchange, an operahouse and more. Today, several ruins exist in Rhyolite including a Bottle house, the Rhyolite train depot, remains of a 3-story bank building and the jail. Rhyolite is located approximately 4 miles west of the town of Beatty on the eastern edge of Death Valley National Park.

To learn more about Death Valley lodging, activities and tourist attractions, visit NationalParkReservations.com/deathvalley.htm There you will find a complete listing of lodging options both inside the park as well as near the parks perimeter. You can also learn more about Death Valley’s many ghost towns and other tourist attractions at the National Park Reservations site.
